Wednesday 7th of Feb, Levile TV gave us a masterclass workshop on how to break into TV presenting. We were gifted by advice from some of our scenes’ most recognisable on screen talent, Remel London, Poet and Jemel One Five.

Personally, I have zero interest in presenting and doing anything in front of camera, however I recognise that this event presented the attendees with a much greater opportunity.

When I first got into TV, I was determined to chew off the ear of  every series producer, director and manager. My thinking was that by cosying up to the big wigs, I’d never be out of work in an industry where you very seldom get a contract longer than 3 months.

A year on, I now realise that the true strength of my network lies in those of like mind and with a similar vision to myself. Knowing the biggest and best directors and producers in the game is great, but what good is it if they know very little of your passions or interests. Whilst this industry is certainly a business, and numbers and profit margins DO matter; what makes the creative world unique is that to create the best content, you must care. If you have no passion for the content you are putting out there, it will tell and it WILL NOT be received.

This is why Levile TV is such a precious resource among young creatives, especially those of us who have been traditionally underrepresented in the industry for so long. In a time where across radio, TV and digital, the industry is slowly starting to warm to the idea of showcasing more diverse content made my diverse creators, there is a need to centralise all that talent and give us a space to meet, socialise and bounce ideas of each other.

I truly expect that Levile will become a mainstay of “our” scene, and that some exceptional content will come of it.
